Somalia Newsroom is a news blog that was created on April 15, 2012 and is managed by Cleophus (Tres) Thomas, III.
The goal of the site is to provide information and analysis on Somalia and to make contributions about ways to understand politics in the Horn of Africa.
Tres is an Africa Analyst at a consulting firm in Washington, D.C. focusing on issues in the Horn of Africa.
He also works as part of the Sudan Task Group—an initiative between scholar-practitioners at George Mason and American University involved in peacebuilding efforts between resistance movements and diverse social groups in Sudan.
In the past, he has worked on issues concerning international development and security at Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C. and also created conflict resolution curriculum for the D.C. public school system.
He is a Ph.D. candidate at the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia focusing on the future of federalism in Somalia.
He holds a M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University in Washington, D.C. and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He has contributed commentary to news outlets including Radio France International (RFI), Ebony, and Atlantic Monthly.
